The Graduate's ending... — 2 years ago
is the WORST thing about THE GRADUATE. I never really get the feeling Hoffman’s character actually CARES about Mrs. Robinson’s daughter. I never get a good reason as to why they’re really together at all. I’ve always thought THE GRADUATE to be thoroughly overrated anyway. I like Hoffman, but I just don’t think GRADUATE’s a good film.

I couldn’t agree more. The Graduate has to be one of the most overrated movies of all time.

As a person who ranks The Graduate as one of his favorite movies of all time, I just have to jump in and defend the ending… The point is that they are unsure of what it is that they are doing after such an impulsive decision. So in the closing shot there is this great moment of “what the f*^#” are we doing?”, and the looks on their faces as they compute the irrational choice they just made easily does qualify it’s place here…
